Before I get to the meat and potatoes of this request, I have to tell a short story. Recently, I got Red Alert 3: uprising for christmas, and, long story short, it sucked. But it had a few good units I'd like to bring to SupCom to make it all the better.
The Jet Tengu, for example, would be a very nice addition to someone's mod pack. Have a weakly armored, but quick, land unit designed for anti-ground unit blood and guts, and with a press of a button, it snaps up into an air superiority fighter that's somewhere in between an interceptor and a fighter/bomber.
I'd suggest using the Chopper VX from RA3 as well, making an air unit that could butcher anything on the ground able to shift into a ground unit that turned aircraft into flaming carcasses raining from the sky, but I think the UEF got over helicopter technology around the same time they developed VTOLs.
Point is, I would very much appreciate it if someone could make a transforming land to air unit so I could put Red Alert 3 away and never ever look at it again. As far as appearances go, it'd be completely up to you, but looking at a Robotech Veritech fighter might be a good place to start.
I'm also quite aware of the transforming unit as part of the 4DC pack. However, that has no AA capabilities and is not even close to what I'm talking about. Besides, no one plays as Seraphim.|||The Hard part is having a reason to make such a unit beyond simpy wanting to.
And of course there is balance considerations as well, Supcom has a much harder time with these kinds of units compared to more "classic" RTS's.
Mike|||Wow, you caught notice of this one fast, Orange.
But how do you mean about balance? Way I figure it, the unit in question would be stupidly fragile on the ground because of wearing an aircraft fuselage for armor, and slower than other aircraft because of the weight of the parts required for transformation. It'd be a kind of anti T2 gunship kind of thing.
It's real strength would be in the ability to do both of those things; versatility and whatnot. Also, it's just the spectacle of thing. Would strike a certain kind of awe to see a dozen or so fighters shift forms in mid-air and hit the ground running, firing even before they've come to a stop.
I'd be perfectly willing to make such a unit myself, but I lack the knowledge. If someone could get ahold of Resin Smoker (think he's on deployment now) or someone who knew the inner workings of 4DC, I'm willing to learn if they're willing to teach.|||I could be wrong, but I don't think any content-laden mod request in any modding forum for any game ever conceived has ever resulted in a delivered mod. Nevermind for a mostly-dead game.
If it takes more than 30 minutes of someone's time to put together (and this would take a lot more than that), the only way you'll see results is if you do it yourself. Lua is pretty easy to learn, and if you don't have the knack for modeling, just 'borrow' models from the game you're copying and hope nobody notices. If that sounds like too much work to you, guess how much work it sounds like to people who aren't even interested in the concept?
If you do decide to take a stab at this, don't start with this mod. Learn how to make a few simple no-content mods, play around with Blender and get a working model of anything in the game, and then when you're starting to get comfortable with the game's internals and still want to do this particular mod, go for it. If you can present a framework and some functional content, you'll be surprised at how much more willing people will be to help.|||But don't forget, Stock FA air and land units have similar HP ammounts, and a Ground unit thats AA and an Air unit thats Anti-ground just seems kinda superbly biased you know?
Zataku|||Actually, if I were you guys, I'd ditch the Citadel and make a strafing UEF air experimental based around that concept. Unless you're already mid-way through a total revamp of the Citadel, or something.
(no offense, but the Citadel kinda sucks)|||Zataku|||I must say that the floating battle fortress that transforms into the giant shogunhead of death was pretty awesome in the Red Alert 3 Expansion.
Anyway I would like to thank the blackops team and the 4dc team for their amazing work can't wait until the next versions ^^.|||The first Transformers movie caused a wave of requests of Transformming units mod.
Also some people wanted to do a Metal Fatigue lke mod.
Nobody worked on that AFAIK.
