Will GPG permit the porting of SupCom to another engine?

Given the discussions on the following two threads,
- How can the moho engine be improved?
http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=49916
- Is SupCom 2 literally SupCom FA on a diet?
http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=49870
will GPG support a port of FA to an open source engine, like what happened with TA and the Spring project, or an entirely new project using Stratagus (albeit with some restrictions in functionality), or some other engine?
By "support" is meant that despite that authority on this rests with THQ, nonetheless, is GPG willing to advocate on behalf of the modding community? GPG had an understanding with THQ that even though modding support of FA technically violates the license agreement, THQ would not prosecute modders.|||Seeing as that would allow people to play the content of these games for free, I'm gonna go ahead and say 'good luck, and enjoy your inevitable C&D order'.
Nevermind that it would be a multi-year project for several people with no jobs or social lives, and therefore won't ever happen. Unlike plenty of abandoned older games that have seen ports like this, FA is still around, and is plenty moddable in its current state.|||Mithy|||Does it redistribute game content in a different format, and simply look for the CD, or does it actually use the content from the game's original data files?
It's probably possible to do the latter with FA, but you'd have to write a custom mesh and animation importer. Audio system as well. Oh, and emitter/shader system, unless you want to re-create each and every one of like 5000 emitters.|||What it comes down to is if you create all new content, there is nothing they can do. If you include even ported models/sounds/maps/etc, then you are looking at a lawsuit. You would need to recreate everything from scratch.
So, if you make a brand new Monkeylord model for a different engine and code it in completely from scratch, fair use usually protects you. The more you do though, the greater chance that lawyers will get involved and the increased chance of a CnD.|||viewtopic.php?f=19&t=49305
Read that thread. It will sufficiently answer your questions.|||Mithy|||BulletMagnet|||Leroy Jethro Gibbs|||BulletMagnet|||Good question. Splitting a series property between two publishers is odd, although not all that uncommon. It's usually not such a similar game/engine that meshes and other content can be directly transferred between them, though.|||well i haven't got any PMs saying to take down my mod nether has shadowlord, apart from the models and Diffuse texture i had to create the others and edit the bp and scripts so they worked in SC2.
