Mod request: Supcom FA: Water platforms

I don't know if this is possible in the supcom engine but i can't mod at all. so i hope this is the right tread for this. Well as the name suggests i think that you should be able to put platforms on water build in like 1x1 squares like walls. you could then build structures and have buildings there. think of th possibilities! Like a hidden airbase with ground unit production structures far out in the ocean. nobody would know where those attacks come from exactly. Of course i don't know if suck a mod has been made all ready or if it isn't possible. Please reply :D|||casperkdk|||its not possible to build platforms either on land or water.. that other units can be built on.. with limited success they can traverse a raised platform thats about it.. novel idea though :)|||interesting idea from casperkdk...
I used to play at M.A.X. in the mid 90's and I don't remember of such platforms.
I'll have to install and play it again.
This "unit" seems to be doable.|||While you might not be able to make platforms on water, I would be interested on adding flotation buoys to existing stuff, sorta like how AA and tac missile defenses have. Like Point defenses, radar, artillery emplacements, so on.
Imagine adding buoys to air factories and engineering stations. That's when things really start to get interesting.|||4DC has a portable gun turret that can be placed on the water.
Resin|||Lol artillery emplacements on a water buoy
Well there was the terraforming mod that let you "build" a square and make canals and raised platforms in the water.
Video Link|||you could create a boat with a commander like upgrade system. So it could get more weapons|||Hi,
Might as well show everyone this... its something me and resin_smoker are playing with... its not water platforms (which for the record are not possible "YET") but they are crossable platform none the less..
enjoy..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF7Avvz_txQ|||really interesting, lots of possibilities, make them destructible of course and a different look for each faction would be great. Nice work as allways !
Maybe it is time to make a release with all your great work gathered in one mod ? 8)|||Krapougnak|||Ion|||If they can't be built on, it's a little on the useless side, but once we (lol- you) get a better understanding of this kind of technique, there can be quite a few possibilities...|||Technically it should be feasible. Remember the terrain deform mod that carved craters where shells landed? Use that.
Ie:
1-Create an unit (call that platform pillar) that can be built over water.
2-Upon creation this unit would deform (raise altitude of) the adjacent cells, creating a buildable zone. It would also remember what the altitude use to be.
3-Upon destruction the unit would deform the terrain back to what it used to be.
problem: I'm not sure if it'll be possible for torpedoes to attack the pillar.|||deforming the terrain is a bad idea.. you can only deform it in retangles + getting it back to its normal shape afterwards is impossible.. its just basicly cardboard cutouts..
what me and resin are thinking is that we can build a platform out at sea BUT you cannot build on it.. this is impossible (so far) what you would have to do is air drop arty onto the platform.. however... the platform CAN be a structure that when built.. has its own weapons systems, ie AA, arty, lasers ect.. units can still traverse this structure ie mount it.. it can also be an air staging platform.. kinda like a sea firebase..
built by engi's or com's
"maybe this unit will make its way into 4DC" (big grin)|||Very useful =p Bridges would be awsome XD|||Domino|||FA's terrain deformation is not very precise. You can probably get terrain height before deformation, and attempt to restore it, but it will likely leave 'spikes' on the corners that stick up quite a ways. That might not be a problem in really deep water, but it'll look pretty bad in shallow water.|||You're saying that something like:
(section view)
~ .~ .~ .__.__.~ .~ .
__.__._/.__.__.\
__.__./_.__.__._\.__.
could become:
~ .~ .~ .~ .~ .~ .~ .
__.__._|.__.__.|
__.__./|.__.__.|\.__.
with:
. a cell delimiter
~ the sea level
_ / and | the ground

But isn't the height of 2 adjacent cells supposed to be averaged?|||Gniarf|||Well, Im sure we're all looking forward to future advances with this, keep posted. Also, this has been a long time coming Domino, and I'm afraid it hurts me much to say this...Domino|||ROFL!!!!!! i always called him milthy for like ever and ever lol.
sorry Mithy for the thousands of times ive called you milthy! :)|||Domino|||Yeah, unselectable should work. I had no idea that this is what you were needing the assist thing for, or I would have just suggested that. You may still not be able to issue a move order to an amphibious platform that's over a layer that the unit can't normally traverse, though.
And like you've said, there's really no way to build a unit with a footprint across a shoreline. You can make the mesh extend across the shoreline, but I'm not sure if that's enough to allow the unit to walk on the part that extends past the footprint.
This kind of modding is not really the moho engine's specialty, unfortunately.|||settinga unit unselectable sadly does not make it unassistable. it just means you can select it lol..
